Photo what I'm ready Sparage welcome to count down to kick off brought you by Verizon official wireless service provider. Of the NFL they were talking Minnesota Vikings with -- got there. A viking update dot com and -- Brett Favre is back for his twentieth season the forty year old Favre is coming off what many believe was his finest season throwing 33 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. Well the future Hall of Fame or be hard pressed to match those numbers this thing. Yeah you know I think anybody would be early. Is receiving corps a little bit banged up -- was last year. The the one advantage against or Emmitt he's already had a year in the vikings' West Coast system which is pretty similar -- sixteen years he -- -- in in Green Bay but some nuances some getting used to Brad Childress the way that he calls plays. Getting used to working again with there'll level we -- putting Green Bay but. You know. 33 touchdown seven interceptions in the pretty tough number to match and you know -- history there's always been a lot of touchdowns but there's -- -- lot of interceptions. Last year to cut down on the interceptions so we'll have to see if he can repeat those sort of numbers but yet he's gonna be hard pressed to be able to do that. -- imagine me wide receivers and a lot of question marks around that group Sidney Rice with the first half the season following hip surgery. And Percy -- continues to -- -- migraine headaches how concern of the vice with their receiving corps. I'm very concerned actually. If they weren't so concerned they would have gone out and sign Javon Walker who may be on his last legs who knows that mean we haven't really had enough time to to see exactly what he can be as he recovers from that -- knee surgery. But also on one the back today actually after this signed walker once traded for Greg camera real so yeah there's a definite concern there it's. I really don't see a guy here who's going to be able to. To replicate the sort of production that Sidney Rice had last year you're talking about a thirteen hundred yard receiver. Who really broke out and gained the in the confidence of far right from the outside and far. Favre came in I think within a few practices he saw exactly what he had to your eyes big bodied receiver six foot three excellent hands great body control. And now is left without that I guess I would -- sort of a security blanket on the outside. I don't see any receiver that's going to be as physical as -- book last year. So there's there's a lot of concern about it and as you mentioned also Percy Hartman. The the headaches and migraines that he's been experiencing. Last year. There are several times one in the week leading up to a game he was dealing with these migraines and was very uncertain weather's going to be able to go or not. Several games he was able support through it. And make it to the game there was one game that that he wasn't able to do that now this year I think there's still gonna continue to be uncertainty but. I think they would feel very fortunate football they amassed one game from him this year so. Why -- question that that wide receiver position. I like the acquisition of Greg Camarillo but I'm just uncertain if there's anybody here that's going to be able to replace what that the arrested last year. I'm defense we got a couple of positions still unsettled strong safety and the number two quarterback spot. What do you think or those jobs. While via the safety position I think is a little bit more wide open. Tyrell Johnson was a starter last year is the incumbent coming in and I think he has the edge just because they know. What they've got in him but no question that is being being pushed hard by jamarcus Stamford. Stanford a little bit more physical little bit more in the box type of player whereas Tyrell Johnson the guys he he likes to think he can. Do a little bit more. You know be that back him safeties that they can stop the that the comfort to the path over the top and that sort of thing. But. That that can be a battle that goes on all year I think -- start out with Tyrell Johnson. But I don't think that you know they're not getting what they want out of him within that first month into. I don't think they're gonna have a -- it does make -- switching go to market Stamford. Number two cornerback I really think that Chris cook -- going to be that guy right now it's a little bit banged up but I think by the time the regular season opens. He is going to be that guy at right cornerback opt for the Antoine Winfield. He's their second round draft choice really of physical cornerback in. I think that's gonna fit their system that's because that's six foot 3200. Attitude and some like that he's going to be able to come up and support the wrong very well. Which they really need in this cover two defense their cornerbacks. Have a lot more run responsibilities than than your typical shut down coverage corners so. I think it's going to be current cut Asher Allen won't be in the max Lito Sheppard the bigger name but I don't know that he's gonna see the time that -- -- -- -- -- Asher Allen. Final Vikings lost in the championship game last year so it's it's Super Bowl or bust this year. While the F for a couple of reasons Favre being one that he has already said this is going to be -- last year now whether people believe them or not that's up to them but he seems like a guy that is. Really ready to make this his last stand I think his body is starting to feel the effects of playing the last nineteen years in the league so that's number one or -- see them having that Super Bowl or bust mentality. But they've also got a lot of other players that are in the last year of their contract horse starters. Chad Greenway in Bentley -- two linebackers both of last year. At Williams at that the nose tackle the guy that has that this is probably going to be his last year. Who knows about Antoine Winfield who's been around for quite awhile could be as last year. So -- -- that defense there. Really strong players that they could be in the last year at the Vikings and and you look at labor situation. Who knows what's gonna happen with the NBA the players union. And the league being able to work out a long term extension. And they may not be trying to start this season and it's it's really tough for a team like the Vikings to go out and the confidence to sign. Their key players to extensions. Without knowing what's gonna happen with the CPA so Super Bowl or bust as a -- mentality around here right now. That fit for this edition of countdown to kickoff brought to you by Verizon.
