Spoke to coach speak presented by the GMC never say never moment of the week. We have another great -- for you today cowboys' linebackers coach that you were. Going to for -- wanna watch. Jaguars defensive coordinator Mel Tucker breaks down the different coaches on the field and in the box. Jim Schwartz at future -- we had data NBA we'll learn the proper footwork for a running back. That much more let's get things started with Atlanta Falcons head coach Mike Smith. Coach for we get started we have to talk about Tony Gonzales He moves to second in the all time receptions let. List behind Jerry Rice there's not the but receivers in -- that He passed up. There's not another tide had anywhere close talk about the impact that he's had not on your team we're talking maybe the greatest tight -- ever in the game. Well with all due respect Cuba. Newsome and change sharp that that we both are familiar with Brian. Lee County is the greatest thing that's ever played the game. His work ethic is just unbelievable. He's been a great addition to our team this guy is hard to cover when you. Try to put a linebacker on him he's gonna win that badly with a strong safety on he's gonna win that battle as well and that. I'm just glad that we got. Well let's let's talk about obviously a big win Mike and you've got to Atlanta that you have stressed the idea. Back to back wins of string wins together. Up to this point this year you you have been able to do that you've lost you've won you lost you want. Talk about the importance of winning at home and it going on the road to get that back to back wins. Well Brian that's the biggest thing that we preach like you said. We don't wanna be on a Yo-Yo we want to -- victories together. In the you know you can put two. Two game winning streaks together and split the rest of the time you're gonna look at the -- you're going to be an -- six. And possibly be in the yep in the playoffs so. The good teams put those string those wins together and in the other thing that we always stresses. Never want to have back to back losses you can eliminate back to back losses during the sixteen game season you're gonna like where -- at December. Let's talk about going on the road and beating a very good Detroit lion team. One of the biggest challenges is dealing with that crowd noise and I -- familiar with that you're going to New Orleans every year. You when you and I talked I had that to your game obviously you talked about going into Seattle talk about some of things you do to prepare your team to go into an environment that's -- Well Brian I think I've different coaches have different philosophies in the way that we tried to approach it is try to simulate -- the best we can't. And what we've ended up doing is instead of put music it happening guys feeling good about it. We try to make as aggravating as possible and we just that last JD engine -- -- about a 120 decimals. When we're -- prepare our offense for road games and we also do it for our. Defense when were prepared for home games so. We make it a little bit tough and we've got to be able to handle that so we work on the verbal communication and we can do it in if not we've got to do within signals. Wood -- they work because you were really at your best kind of when you went into the no huddle sequence even in Detroit. Well we've been very fortunate the way that we've been able to do perform in and move the ball effectively in -- in -- no huddle offense and I think you really helped us in in the game and what happens is -- It's not a hurry up were basically trying to use all the clock we controlled the clock in the ball game they -- Detroit. And -- people get tired yell and scream and actually as the game wears on we feel like it it takes the crowd out of that when we're in no huddle. -- time in the game. Tenth time in the game you saw your quarterback Matt Ryan go down. Obviously it turned out not being that serious as He came back again. Not serious and it's not your immediate his legs or -- we're serious about pride. But it is -- but tell me what you goes through your mind as they head coach when you see your franchise quarterback player on the turf like that. Well the first thing that went through my mind is okay well what place we work with Chris Redman so we could doubt. You know continue to play the game and then after you go through that inventory you start going oh my -- is He really gonna. Be able to come back in doubt when I got out on the field and up to see how Matt was doing -- kind of got that look that He was like He was going to be okay. And that we had to get him in inside let the trainers doctors say is take a look at him. And we got back and it just shows what kind of guy and He comes back on the first play in the 48 yard completion on third -- -- nothing critical just to keep third out of third law. Yeah and and Brian I don't know if you thought that that. I I was behind the game. Trying to get him get him to fair you okay Matt you OK -- coach and we feel like -- it was like He. Work is drop in ran right out onto the field all want to know. It dropped right into the huddle though that I -- it. He did a great a great job getting the ball to -- -- with. Let's finish off talking about your coming up on you know near the second half of the season now. Where you've got a substantial amount of the divisional games still ahead you're chase nor is now talk about how important is that you could impact it you've got them twice. We sure do in fact you were on the bye week this -- the world and get some much needed rest and try to give them. Valuation in terms of what we're trying to. Improve on but the airplane as well as anybody in the league right now and tea god and saw that second half the ball game in. Drew is cut him up. He was almost a perfect for the ball game we do have -- twice we get him here a couple weeks at home but. Right now we're gonna focus on its bye week in and current Indianapolis. I did you enjoy the rest coach reporters figured out a -- okay Brian -- -- -- great day. Great linebackers are always in the right place at the right time how they know -- to be. In this week's Billick wanna one Cowboys linebacker coach Matt Huber -- shows us the keys. Coach I was a fortune be around pretty good linebacker Ray Lewis obvious his. Recognition to reaction was instantaneous. And a lot of people understand just what linebackers looking through through formation. For his when Jesus talk will be about what they're looking for. To do -- -- pastures because we'll typically with this right here we go out. Mostly pro I set okay so we're gonna talk about 34 defense and inside linebackers here today so typically what they do was every man on which -- and from a dark. And get a run pass key there OK then they go to the full -- don't teach to the football because. You know an awful all levels you know the -- gonna take you to the ball and fullbacks and taking the ball every time okay so that's our initial key now. We get to a tilt okay. Until that formation over here now we know that most of the runs are gonna go on the side of the ball okay. And I think he's over here and there are set. So now He was called fast he'd kill and what we're doing is the linebackers can look through this triangle. -- -- there. Because now. Read through this fullback that -- and it brings me back this way and all runs or -- -- there any prospect when -- come back and back. Okay same thing with this guy in the players doing anything he's regretting his man on key to detail. You go to a near set -- exact. So an arm and -- hockey here I think that fall backward and my mission now but I read it read I read until through the arc. This triangle. Right there. -- most runs are gonna come on the front side to the close out here if anything comes back this way now in all aspects. Now if you do that team we view shifts motions they were -- -- very practical. And motion outside. Structure. The formation. To now just go strictly right here to go to -- in the dark OK you can now really right. And watching so I don't know yet felt they'll both start out here trying to hide can be an -- out here. You know few teams -- And like this post on him out here and people back -- and move him back in here but okay turning into linebackers to key on. -- now for this week's GMC never say never moment of the week nominee. Under the direction of their new starting quarterback to Denver Broncos came out of the gate -- we're down fifteen to nothing -- to the fourth quarter. But in the final five minutes of the regulation time Tim Tebow -- touchdown drive scored a two point conversion forcing overtime. Debra -- victorious in the extra period as kicker Matt Prater nailed a 52 yard field goal to beat the Miami Dolphins. Eighteen to fifty. The New York Jets have been waiting for wide receiver Plaxico Burress first out since signing talented free agent in the off season. On Sunday against San Diego Chargers. You broke out a big way and running game with just two touchdown receptions on the season. First found the end zone three times and twice in the second half to help the Jets overcome an eleven point deficit to beat the Chargers 2721. To check out the third never say never involvement of the week nominee and vote your favorite go to GMC dot com slash never saying never. In week six head coach Sean -- injured his leg. And it had to coach from the box going forward. In this week's coaches diary Jaguars defensive coordinator Mel Tucker breaks down the difference between coaching on the field and in the box. When you call a defense -- from the blue. The advantage of that that you get a chance to see more. See more things when you're on the field director round level. Really can only see what it's immediately in front you you can't you have a only goes out and do your business very very limited so you come on people in the press our -- tell you. A lot of what happened. On that particular play. When you're in a box to get them bigger vision you can see a lot more and things are much more quieter. Much more quiet in the press box -- is definitely your papers are you -- your game plan now. You just have to to -- so to go look Diet Coke right there or -- not you're -- personnel coming and it's very hits well personnel. You know first and 1012 -- my third part Carolina -- and calmly and coolly. You know major call in and you get it down to -- that you know that person don't run and -- in place now we don't have to worry about somebody getting knocked to the silent do you need. A roll up trying to get off to -- and make the next call to open a box Kirby Smart and -- -- clear inclined to see. -- called again. Besides holding onto the football -- running backs footwork can be the difference between being an all pro and being a back up. We head down to San Diego learn the proper footwork for running back. -- Ollie Wilson running back coach the San Diego Chargers coach this talk about the footwork for the running back. On inside and outside and play different talk about the evening when coupled with the heat -- -- or it'll be the quarterback -- you environment Patrick. What they entered the number one thing to do double and in our zone is -- -- the and part of that is because you now it changes will be -- -- and -- outside. Because of the match point we wanted to. If I'm -- in all I -- pointers in -- to attack. I want to be able move we felt like where we darted toward -- and would like that was the that was the angle that move to defense. Art she is as we start to do there is one -- 45 degree angles that -- that. And now I start to cross over and when I take my third depth. I won't be on imported it in Adelaide at tackle and now my important important part of me now is told -- or. Be able oppress the inside -- -- is over as long as you can and now the -- in downhill and now I want to be able to read. Wears down linemen on the line of scrimmage and now be able to go in latter out -- his movement. And in -- hold the key I think for our wars and pressure from our younger guys is. -- tennis is to keep the Russian in time at tackle. What happens there -- no vision back here. But by giving would've won and impressed and it. Are fresh and it gives you time to move depth and we have to have been booed me that this could -- from the B gap to the gap to the Friday. Question about him and we felt like by having that vision. Who Marshall would like -- -- have a vision point to the although. Areas and then it all important quarterback. Try to catch up with him over and He didn't take away the back vision view that these exactly so -- -- -- -- -- during that there is a little bit when you run outside. Now what we're trying to give their defense credit and Reid and the work. But we've -- did a little change ours are out I don't and I got this would amount did. And Denver will call up when He came to Atlanta and what happened now wanna be give the appearance that we're gonna really -- the home. But he'll be timing and the bill -- -- -- got some better -- -- -- and we were dropped. And now our goal is around -- are important Al widened. Today hypocrite -- are cracked a bit tight and an -- and a position to take that stretch with the idea of it now. -- -- per game will Wear an MS. We talk about now there's -- and cut through labor the cut back. And now I wore the line privileged I'm gonna read in and out. And what I would like to do is I would love to be able to get this because the problem too. Is to get their tour now -- -- So now the combination from the defense. And I'd only -- sides. And then not real with a ball going to be and we felt like Dutch boy. Really complimented. Him play because now when deployed cut back. We don't get him signed so you -- the tackle what about how I don't go at him to crack the goals and we'd get a little bit wider. And we really would like to force and that the whole thing again with the land -- all all the -- we're not -- -- the vision out the back here. We're gonna chase that hit that out side as a tackle -- Reid that if we now get him out I won't put the ground it will take that down -- If not in his gray area. Now got blew it open. Now it's time to answer what are your -- this one is for Jim Schwartz and it comes from that. And He asks what's tougher emotionally the challenge of changing the culture to Detroit or raising twins. Well fortunately. That is what happens between hits as my wife about what. Successful on currencies because coaches we work on. Week. In time I spend my family's mainly offseason and it's all over things like that. You know twins are difficult an up tick quicker you know. But. You know if there's also actually involved and -- -- as coach. You know any time coach -- job in the NFL he's generally getting it because. Things have been going well. And as coaches we know that case and in Detroit wasn't. If things go well for years long time. There was a lot of work to do that roster. You know within the building but all know outside of our our -- There prescription. You know this year I think I got a lot of times when you know. Work him in stroke on her career figure you don't you don't realize you're going through tough times when you're going to look back. You have a question you want me to ask an NFL coach said -- week to be at Coach Billick warned He belted coach speak at fox dot com. This week got to Baltimore for the Cardinals and the Ravens. So if you have a question -- job Harbaugh or Ken Whisenhunt said this week and your question might get on here. Now it's time -- my Billick -- I'm known as sort of a stats guy I love statistical now this and to find those special things that can tell you something about a game where a team. That may not be immediately apparent. I also love college football but the two don't mix because of the imbalance in the NCAA statistically. When a team like the LSU Tigers -- Northwestern State not northwestern. But Northwestern State and Oklahoma plays Ball State. Games like that render college statistical way. Watching -- just manhandled the Indianapolis Colts. It kind of got the same feeling as I do watch college football what do you do with those types of lopsided matchup. Normally -- NFL is a very -- genius league with most teams falling within one or two games of 500 with just a couple out -- This makes for some interest -- -- -- as you go forward. But after watching the Saints the Colts rebuilt the Cowboys and Rams well let's just say it left me wanting I'm not sure Northwestern State or Ball State would -- faired better. That'll do it this week's episode of coach speak presented by the GMC never say never moment of the week to make sure to tune in next Tuesday for another great show. Have a great week everybody. --
