Nichols helped Larry reception as a -- displays. In spartans -- and it was one of the keys that helped propel Michigan state of the legends division title. Right isn't -- with the spartans resonate. Michigan State sports the nation's third best defense and they have that we need quality wins including two -- possible BCS teams in Wisconsin. And Michigan. We're joined now by Michigan State head coach mark Antonio and his quarterback Kirk cousins and -- I would start with you I don't wanna ask you about the hail Mary play against Wisconsin it. Has the campus come down first the ball and what does that mean to your season. Well as special and for us into the month of October. We -- we had to play that month was really gonna define our season and we came out three and one and that month with some big wins over Ohio State Michigan and Wisconsin and that went against Wisconsin is very important to put us where we are right now and in the hunt for the Big Ten championship and we're grateful for the able to comment and for the game that day in and in October and for the the way the hail Mary bounce our way. But now we're gonna need out to bring it all again as we did in October with a full team when we're -- The same thing this coming week. Coach Antonio you went to media days this year. As defending Big Ten champions. And you went there with the idea this program can continue to grow. And continue to make noise many people looking goes one year wonders but I think you -- feel that your team was gonna build bettered that did you. Well we had a great great chemistry coming back our football team great leadership I think if the ground level. That means our seniors guys like Kirk and some of Mario's other players but. They were trying to build a culture here were trying to lay a foundation and I think that's what we've been able to do here this year. Be able to sort of paved the way for the future a little bit there's no question our goal was to play fourteen games to get to this moment where we play in this championship game. Now it's reality quickly Wisconsin again. That'll be exciting worsened to be a great challenge there. And Kirk you were at media days also in before I get to you -- any questions let's go back to that that that time frame. Were you demonstrated what it truly meant to be a student athlete in the NCAA. Being a college football player today's culture is a privilege a privilege that brings much responsibility. I don't believe it's too far fetched to think that we just college football players to make a significant positive difference in the youth culture of America. Simply by embracing their responsibilities that accompanied his place of privilege. May we as players have the wisdom to handle this privilege and the courage to fulfill that responsibility we beginning. Thank you go bring. -- you were universally acclaimed for that it and it was moving in and made many people think. How much time did you put into that how much thought was behind that because that would just thinking it felt like it like it's coming from the heart also. No it absolutely was I received word about three weeks before media days without -- the speaker a representing the other student athletes that had media days in. Got some help from Jon -- now skew our sports information director and and also from. My dad works in the ministry and and gives a lot of talks like. I leaned on that end and then also basically just spoke from the heart like you said in and -- what what I really believed to be great truth and I think fit. Television shows like the long run right now out your shoulder reach the college football has in the great opportunity that we have his players to make a difference. Because then Tony you have a great quarterback for. We also have a great team. And talk about gaining national respect you think that you come so far as to gain the national respect that people really look at you as that contender. Well I think this football program is that it has grown in the last five years and so it's. It's been the result a lot of people working extremely hard and we've been in the top twenty I think from 26 for 27 weeks you know we. We're undefeated last year -- all the way to number five. And right now we're flirting around number 101214. Whatever it is but. I think people are thinking about the spartans and right now as we go into any any football game a big expectations are we're gonna win. You know we've. I guess for one point one games the last two years. So that's a big statement and we're gonna find out how good we are we continue to move forward and it's it's resolve a lot of people working extremely hard. Not just your players and our administration our coaches. All areas. Others issue with any football program it's a big program and you know there are a lot of people that can move. Coach -- about that -- worthy and that keeps them alive in the effort is gonna take to shut down that touchdown machine money ball. Always played very well on defense. Thus far throughout the season and you know it's to be another great challenge force is as we played Wisconsin this weekend. Throw worthy. William Gholston. -- -- -- Marcus rush -- or anchored that defense line and you've been very difficult to run against. So you know they're gonna match their strength against maybe say in some ways a little bit of our strength and -- -- be instinct -- watch the game you know -- out. Horrible coach make sure you guys take -- second to enjoy and kind of relish the championship the first ever legends division championship in the Big Ten -- you're headed to the inaugural. Big Ten championship game will see -- -- -- there in Indianapolis. All right thanks guys.
