We're now joined by the head coach of the Washington Huskies need -- -- the end. Have you obviously had a very tough weekend down in Baton Rouge after a game like that you just turn the page and move on our deal analyze that and try to learn from it. What we try to analyze -- there's funny stuff for us to learn from you know how we responded to that environment. How some of our younger players responded. Looking at some of the missed opportunities we had early in the ballgame that maybe could -- change the complexion of the game. And -- ultimately you know understand the fact that. You know and when you have eleven penalties. And and you breakdown coverages three or four times in the back in the create big plays your opponent. I don't care who your -- it's hard to win. Coach there's no doubt you have a good wanted to keep pricey flies under the radar but threw 33 touchdown passes. Last season that you've been bitten by the injury bug a little bit how can key. Navigate you through these tough times in this season. Well I think it's important for -- To realize it doesn't have to be all about him and and I've got to do a better job of conveying that to. We'll put the pieces in place to where he could feel secure back there in the pocket. We'll have a big game plan in place this week and as we move forward. To get our playmakers the football so that he can get his rhythm back -- he hasn't played poorly. And but I think we can play better around him which in turn will allow him to play back to the standards that that. You know he expects from self. You do have what I believed to be. The best tied it in the country in Austin's a fairy injected. Tell the people nationally a little bit about him and what can we expect from him on Saturday. Well Alston on -- season very gifted young man when you're 66270. Pounds. And you run for 640 with that with the ball skills that he has. Those are all great attributes but. He's got tremendous work ethic he's a very bright young man. He's been a playmaker for us the first two games with a catch in almost fifteen balls now two games. I would expect to see him and us moving him all over the field and try to get him more opportunities that's. Football. You know it but he's a joy to coach he's still just the puppies just a true sophomore and and a long way to go he understands that but he's got tremendous work ethic. Coach you talked about being bit by the injury bug but meanwhile you also had to replace a lot of talent on the opposite side of the ball. Running back Chris Paul was a huge part of your offense last season. How do you think the rebuilding process going so far. Well that we we've had a couple of setbacks along the way early in training camp lost Dionte Cooper running back who we thought we had high hopes more. We lost Jesse collier for the remainder of the season in the first quarter of our first ball game vs San Diego State so. We're played a couple of younger guys that we were hoping not to have to thrown in the fire right away -- in -- petty and Eric Wilson. But they've responded well I'm excited to watch them play Saturday to see what they can do. And then obviously on the perimeter when you lose two veteran receivers like the Jermaine -- and Devin Aguilar. You have to replace those guys in. We lost James Johnson a guy who we thought could step in in training camp for the season so. Jason williams' role is increased. We've been played a couple of true freshman and you don't make kinsey Kendall Taylor who we have high hopes more. So we're just got to sincerely try to build continuity as an offensive football team. Senator around the quarterback Keith price and then allowing those guys around him to -- to make plays and and -- have the confidence -- -- to make their place. Will cause not only are you retooling on the opposite side of the ball you also have some obstacles on the deep -- the side of the ball as well -- to replace their entire defense that staff. What are the biggest challenges coming. Well I've been pleased with our -- -- today they've they've played an excellent game against San Diego State in -- one. I thought they played really good effort and passion and aggressiveness in week two vs LSU. Unfortunately offensively we put him in some that you know not great situations. And then we got a couple breakdowns there but I like the effort in the physics -- that we play with so. Hopefully we can continue down that road defense the I like the talent on the defensive side of the ball. Denny Shelton in the middle Josh surely on the edge injury Hudson on the edge. John Teemu Shaq tops in Travis beanie at linebacker. Sean Parker safety Desmond Trufant corner. I like those guys and I think rolling gonna continue to improve I think Justin Wilcox and and our defense the staff have done a tremendous job. Implementing the defense and I think our our best days are still ahead of us. You talked earlier this week about being frustrated even sick to your stomach about the start to this season. It's new week so what's your goal for Saturday's game against Portland State. I want us. Play husky football community you know this is this is no offense to Portland stayed or Nigel Burton who's -- who's a great husky. I want our guys to take the field and not only play fast and play physical but I -- excuse really well wanna cut down to turn overs. A wanna play Smart football in the special situations within the game. And and play a brand of football that is us and put up product on the field at that. We can be proud of regardless of her opponent is. And I don't think we've quite done that the first two weeks -- so that's been the emphasis all week long and will continue to be on Saturday when we take the field. All right catch thanks to look forward to seeing the Huskies on the field this week it like Saturday. -- just thank you.
