A positive drug test result has cost Yancy Medeiros his first UFC victory.
The Hawaiian lightweight has seen his knockout finish over Yves Edwards last November overturned to a no contest after he flunked a post-fight drug test, the UFC confirmed in a statement released on Monday night.
The promotion said he tested positive for marijuana metabolites, and that he served a 90-day suspension retroactive to the event’s date on Nov. 6. That means he’s already clear to compete again despite this information just becoming public, although he will have to pass a drug test in order to be officially booked into a new bout.
Medeiros had knocked out Yves Edwards 2:47 into the first round of the UFC Fight For The Troops 3 event in Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
That should have been his first Octagon win after suffering a hard-luck loss due to injury in his UFC debut in April 2013.
His record is now 9-1 with 1 no contest.
Medeiros’ positive drug test was the second pot failure officially announced in the last 24 hours, following the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation’s confirmation that Jessica Eye flunked an October 2013 test for the same drug.
