There were audible gasps in Dodgers camp Friday morning as Hall of Famer Sandy Koufax was struck in the head by an Andre Ethier line drive.
Los Angeles Dodgers MLB.com beat reporter Ken Gurnick later tweeted, "A Dodger official said Sandy Koufax is doing fine" after the 78-year-old was examined by the team's medical staff.
Koufax was watching Ross Stripling warm up in the bullpen on one of the practice fields when Ethier lined a ball foul that hit the side of Koufax's head.
Koufax received a cut on the left side of his foreheard, but remained on his feet and laughed as he walked toward assistant trainer Nancy Patterson.
The training staff drove Koufax toward the minor-league side of the Dodgers complex.
Later, Koufax waved to fans as he was driven back across the complex.
In his role as a Dodgers special adviser, Koufax is on hand to work with pitchers.
