Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz says 32-year-old Scott Ashley Sterling was found dead shortly after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Pacific Coast Highway. Dietz says the death appears to be accidental.
A county Sheriff's Department statement confirms that Sterling is the son of the Clippers owner.
“Our son Scott has fought a long and valiant battle against Type 1 Diabetes. His death is a terrible tragedy, the effects of which will be felt forever by our family and all those who knew and loved him," Donald T. and Shelly Sterling said in a statement. "We sincerely appreciate the warm outpouring of sympathy and support from so many of our dear friends. At this time, we respectfully ask to be afforded the opportunity to mourn this loss in an appropriately private manner.”
An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death.
