Starters Morgan Burnett, Brad Jones questionable for Packers opener

"Morgan Burnett and Brad both came in today with some hamstring soreness," coach Mike McCarthy said. "We'll see how it goes. We're being smart with those guys."
Burnett, Jones and Hayward all injured their hamstrings in Green Bay's third preseason game. All three players missed the preseason finale, but whereas Hayward has continued to be out, Burnett and Jones were both full practice participants early this week. Burnett did not practice Friday and Jones had limited participation.
If Jones is unable to play, career backup Robert Francois would get the start in the Packers' base defense. With Burnett out, Green Bay would start Jerron McMillian and M.D. Jennings, who have been competing against each other throughout training camp to determine the starter next to Burnett -- a battle that has still yet to find a winner.
"We always tell our guys, if you're sitting in that room, you've got to be ready to go in," defensive coordinator Dom Capers said. "Because you might be one play away from being out there and playing a whole lot of plays. Rob Francois and Jerron and M.D. all worked in there today (in Friday's practice) and they'll be ready if something happens and we don't have (Jones and Burnett)."
Hayward, who was the third-place finisher in the Defensive Rookie of the Year race last season, was ruled out for the 49ers game already Wednesday. With Hayward out, rookie fifth-round pick Micah Hyde will be Green Bay's nickel back.
"Micah really from Day 1 hasn't behaved like a rookie," McCarthy said. "He's come in here, picked the scheme up seamlessly. It's something you saw in college. He's very natural. He's made plays in every game, every scrimmage. There's not too many practices where you didn't feel good about No. 33. He's done a very good job since the day he's arrived."
