Brandt: Favre may still consider return
Once the NFL lockout is eventually lifted and teams begin a compressed offseason, hundreds of personnel moves are to be made.
Free agency will begin, rookie deals will be negotiated, trades will be fielded and, of course, an offseason wouldn’t be right without an annual Brett Favre Watch.
Last we heard from Favre, he filed for retirement in January, but his career might not be done just yet, according to a widely-respected former team executive.
“I do think Favre would be interested in talking to a team about returning,” Gil Brandt said on the league’s website during his weekly chat. “But I don’t see a team out there right now that would bring him back as a starter.”
The Vikings spent a first-round pick on quarterback Christian Ponder, but it remains to be seen if he will have the aptitude to start immediately.
Said Brandt: “It's awfully hard for (Favre) to go to a team and be a backup. The Vikings must start Christian Ponder this season to get him some experience. And they're not going to get Favre in there to babysit Ponder.”
