Devils' Ruutu to miss 4-6 weeks with fractured foot

New Jersey Devils veteran forward Tuomo Ruutu is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a fractured foot, coach John Hynes told reporters after Monday's practice.

Sidelined since Oct. 16, Ruutu had missed the team's past four games with a reported bone bruise. The team told reporters on Monday that the fracture did not show up initially before another X-ray this weekend revealed the full extent of the injury.

"I think one of the things that happened was sometimes they look initially with the bruising and all the swelling and they take an X-ray and nothing happens," Hynes told Tom Gulitti of the Bergen Record. "He was making progress and then it halted a little bit this weekend, so he got another X-ray and found the fracture."

Ruutu has failed to notch a point in three games this season while averaging just 11:26 of ice time per contest. The 32-year-old Finn has recorded 148 goals and 197 assists in 705 career games with the Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and Devils.
