Salvador talks with Devils, future still undecided

Published Aug. 4, 2015 9:47 a.m. ET

Veteran defenseman Bryce Salvador is mulling his options for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Salvador, 39, met with New Jersey Devils general manager Ray Shero last week, but told The Bergen Record that there is "nothing new to report."

"I did speak with Ray last week and we had a great general conversation," Salvador told the newspaper via text.

Salvador, who technically still is the Devils' captain, is recovering from a bulging disc and nerve damage in his back that sidelined him for the final 67 games of the 2014-15 season. The veteran finished with two assists in 15 contests.

"He has to be healthy enough to try to continue his career. That's No. 1," Shero said of Salvador, who has collected 24 goals and 86 assists in 786 career games with the St. Louis Blues and Devils.
