Vaughn Grissom - Looking good at plateGrissom went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins.
ImpactThe 22-year-old got the start at shortstop and hit second in the order, but Atlanta has few concerns about his bat. Whether Grissom emerges as the Opening Day starter at short will depend largely on the progress he makes with his defense, but so far so good with the glove in the early part of spring training. If he proves to need more work with that part of his game, Orlando Arcia would get the nod while the younger infielder begins the season at Triple-A, but the job seems to be Grissom's to lose.

Ian Anderson - Struggles in spring debutAnderson gave up four runs on three hits and three walks over 1.1 innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Twins. He struck out one and served up home runs to Edoua...
ImpactJulien is at least a top Minnesota prospect, but Castro is a Detroit castoff with a career .673 OPS competing in camp for a bench role. It's too early in the spring to worry much about box score lines, but Atlanta has options for the fifth starter role if Anderson can't turn things around before Opening Day. The 24-year-old is coming off a campaign in which he stumbled to a 5.00 ERA and 1.51 WHIP after a breakout 2021 season.

Brooks Wilson - Back to minors campAtlanta reassigned Wilson (elbow) to minor-league camp Wednesday.
ImpactWilson got an invitation to big-league spring training although he is still recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last spring, and he will now return to the minor-league level. The right-hander will continue to rehab his injury and look to get back on the mound at some point this season. Wilson produced a combined 2.34 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 84 strikeouts over 50 innings between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett in 2021 and could be an option for Atlanta down the stretch if he returns to form in 2023.

Chadwick Tromp - Sent to Triple-AAtlanta optioned Tromp to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
ImpactTromp was always viewed as unlikely to make the Opening Day club with Sean Murphy and Travis d'Arnaud making up the backstop tandem for Atlanta in 2023. He'll provides organizational depth at Triple-A but could be first in line for a call-up if Atlanta is without Murphy or d'Arnaud for any period of time.

Roel Ramírez - Heads to minors campAtlanta reassigned Ramirez to minor-league camp Wednesday.
ImpactThe 27-year-old right-hander previously had brief cups of coffee in the majors with the Cardinals during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but he was never viewed as a serious candidate to win a spot in Atlanta's Opening Day bullpen. Ramirez is expected to report to Triple-A Gwinnett to begin the 2023 campaign and will face an uphill battle to resurface in the big leagues while he doesn't occupy a spot on Atlanta's 40-man roster.

Nick Anderson - Set for spring debutAnderson (foot) is scheduled to appear in relief in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
ImpactAnderson ended the 2022 season on the 60-day injured list while he recovered from a bout with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, but after being cut loose by the Rays and then joining Atlanta on a one-year deal in November, he's seemingly back to full health at spring training. The right-hander will still have to perform well Wednesday and in his subsequent Grapefruit League appearances to lock down a spot in Atlanta's Opening Day bullpen, but when healthy, Anderson has shown the ability to be a dominant reliever. He was a notable performer during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign in particular, logging a 0.55 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and 26:3 K:BB in 16.1 innings for Tampa Bay that season.

Christian Vázquez - Making second straight startVazquez (illness) will serve as the Twins' designated hitter and No. 5 batter in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Phillies, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
ImpactWhile recovering from an illness, Vazquez wasn't available for the Twins' first three days of Grapefruit League play, but he made his spring debut in Tuesday's 10-7 win over Atlanta, going 0-for-3 while catching four innings. Vazquez apparently checked out fine after the contest, so he'll be back in lineup a day later in a purely offensive role.
