Vladimir Gutierrez - Unlikely to start again in 2021Gutierrez won't start when his turn in the rotation comes up this week, and manager David Bell wouldn't commit Monday when asked if Gutierrez would pitch again this season, Charlie...
ImpactGutierrez hasn't been completely shut down, and the Reds don't have a scheduled starter for Sunday's season finale against the Pirates, so it's possible he gets the nod that day. He's clearly fading recently, however, as he's thrown a combined 9.2 innings over his last three starts while allowing 13 runs on 17 hits, striking out just six while walking eight. He's tossed 131 total innings this season after throwing zero last year, so the Reds may decide not to ask him for anything more.

Luis Castillo - Returning FridayCastillo will return from the bereavement list to start Friday against Pittsburgh, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
ImpactThe Reds will likely have little to play for at that point, as a single loss by them or a single win by the Cardinals over the final week will eliminate them from playoff contention. Castillo himself has something to play for, however, as he can drag his ERA under 4.00 if he throws at least five innings while giving up no more than one run or at least seven innings while giving up no more than two. That's not much of an achievement for a pitcher of Castillo's talent level, but it would be quite an impressive feat for a pitcher who ended May with a 7.22 ERA.

Riley O'Brien - Scheduled to start TuesdayO'Brien will be recalled to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
ImpactThe start will be the 26-year-old's major-league debut. He doesn't project as anything more than a back-end starter and has been unremarkable for Triple-A Louisville this season, posting a 4.55 RA across 23 outings. Control is his main issue, as he's walked 11.2 percent of opposing batters, something his merely above-average 24.7 percent strikeout rate hasn't been enough to offset.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021ROTOWIRE
Nick Castellanos - Hits third homer of weekendCastellanos went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, two walks and an additional run Sunday in the Reds' 9-2 win over the Nationals.
ImpactCastellanos enjoyed a big four-game series against Washington, leaving the yard three times while chipping in a stolen base and three walks to go with six RBI and five runs. He'll be back in action for Monday's day game against the Pirates, manning right field and batting third.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021ROTOWIRE
T.J. Friedl - Sits against rightyFriedl is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
ImpactThe lefty-hitting Friedl took a seat in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Nationals with a lefty (Josh Rogers) on the mound for Washington, but the 26-year-old will stick on the bench for a second day in a row with the Reds opposing a right-hander (Connor Overton) on Monday. In Friedl's stead, manager David Bell will give Delino DeShields a spin in center field after DeShields went 2-for-2 with three walks Sunday.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021ROTOWIRE
Eugenio Suárez - Extends hitting streakSuarez went 1-for-5 with a double and three strikeouts in Sunday's 9-2 win over the Nationals.
ImpactSuarez's two-bagger allowed him to extend his hitting streak to six games, tying his longest stretch of the season. With Mike Moustakas (foot) on the injured list, Suarez is poised to play regularly at third base during the final week of the season, perhaps making him an attractive pickup in leagues where fantasy managers may have dropped him during what's been a rough campaign for the 30-year-old. Suarez owns a meager .678 OPs on the season, but he's slashing .400/.444/.760 with five extra-base knocks during his ongoing hitting streak.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2021ROTOWIRE
Jonathan India - Extends doubles streakIndia went 1-for-4 with a double, two walks and a run Sunday in the Reds' 9-2 win over the Nationals.
ImpactThe rookie closed the weekend series with Washington with doubles in three straight games, bringing his season total up to 32. India will be back atop the lineup for Monday's make-up game against the Pirates while manning his usual spot at second base.
