Report: Ben & Jerry's changes Lin flavor
Ben & Jerry's has removed the fortune cookie pieces from its new Jeremy Lin-inspired frozen yogurt.
Ryan Midden, general manager for the Vermont-based company in the Boston area, told The Boston Globe that the cookies were taken out of "Taste the Lin-Sanity" after "a couple of [pints] got returned because the cookies got so soggy."
He admitted that some people were offended by the presence of fortune cookies in a flavor named for the first Asian-American to play in the NBA.
"There seemed to be a bit of an initial backlash about it, but we obviously weren't looking to offend anybody, and the majority of the feedback about it has been positive," Midden said.
The vanilla frozen yogurt also contains lychee honey swirls. The fortune cookie pieces have been replaced by a waffle cookie that can be dipped into the container or crushed and mixed in, according to The Boston Globe.
"Taste the Lin-Sanity" is being sold for a limited time at the Harvard Square Ben & Jerry's shop, near the Ivy League university where Lin starred before joining the NBA.
The 23-year-old, who has averaged 14.4 points and 5.8 assists with the New York Knicks, was a late addition to Friday night's Rising Stars Challenge in Orlando, which featured the top NBA rookies and second-year players.
Lin played just nine minutes Friday night, FOX Sports Florida reported. He was held to two points and just a single assist, an alley-oop lob from the top of the key to a cutting Blake Griffin, which drew one of the loudest cheers of the night.
