Joey Slye - Another miss SaturdaySlye missed from 37 yards but later converted a 41-yard field goal during Saturday's 20-3 preseason loss to the Ravens.
ImpactSlye has missed three kicks in Carolina's two preseason outings thus far, a less-than-ideal start to the campaign following some erraticism last term. After the game, coach Matt Rhule acknowledged Slye's struggles and hopes he'll get over the hump soon, Joseph Person of The Athletic reports. As a result, it'll be interesting to see how Slye, who has been the Panthers' kicker the past two years, fares in Friday's exhibition finale versus the Steelers.

Phillip Walker - Lousy second showingWalker completed just one of eight passes for eight yards in Saturday's 20-3 preseason loss to the Ravens.
ImpactWalker watched Will Grier start and complete 11 of 14 passes for 144 yards prior to entering the game during the third quarter. From there, Walker struggled to move the ball whatsoever, enabling Grier's performance to close the gap on the competition to serve as Sam Darnold's backup this season. With that job still up for grabs, Friday's exhibition finale versus the Steelers takes on increased importance for Walker and Grier.

Will Grier - Impresses in defeatGrier completed 11 of 14 passes for 144 yards in Saturday's 20-3 preseason loss to the Ravens.
ImpactGrier started and played until the second drive of the second half, impressing with his performance along the way. Although Carolina managed just three points, Grier had a couple connections of over 25 yards to rookies Chuba Hubbard and Terrace Marshall. His efficient play contrasted teammate P.J. Walker's 1-for-8 passing outing, tightening the competition to serve as Sam Darnold's backup going into Friday's exhibition finale versus the Steelers.

Dan Arnold - Suits up SaturdayArnold made his Panthers debut but was not targeted on any of his eight snaps in Saturday's 20-3 preseason loss to the Ravens.
ImpactArnold sat out Carolina's exhibition opener but got a small taste of the action this weekend. With consistently positive reviews of his performance during training camp, Arnold's stock is on the rise heading into the upcoming campaign, and he'll perhaps get to show his stuff more in Friday's preseason finale versus the Steelers, when coach Matt Rhule hopes to play his starters for about a half.
