Michael Rasmussen - Delivers shorthanded appleRasmussen tallied a shorthanded assist in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.
ImpactRasmussen nearly had a shorthanded goal after he intercepted the puck and stormed toward the cage in the first period, but it went down as an assist after his teammate, Christian Fischer, cleaned up the play with a backhand sweep. Early results show that Rasmussen has been a laggard offensively for a Red Wings team that leads the Atlantic Division with 86 total goals. He's produced two goals, five assists and a plus-6 rating through 23 games. Of course, Detroit retooled approximately half of its roster in the offseason, so Rasmussen might just need some extra time to see where he fits in.

Joe Veleno - Pots sixth goalVeleno opened the scoring in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.
ImpactVeleno was in perfect position for his goal once Lucas Raymond's shot pinballed off the pad of goaltender Jake Allen. While Veleno hasn't had more than three shots in a given contest, he's been on point, managing six goals through 23 games and turning in a remarkable 22.2 shooting percentage. He's registered only three helpers, but it's safe to say that overall, Veleno is currently exceeding the value of the $825,000 contract extension that he signed ahead of this season.

Lucas Raymond - Fiery effort in OT winRaymond recorded an assist to complement a season-high six shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.
ImpactWhile Raymond couldn't get any shots to fall, his assist on the game's first goal proved to be critical, as the Wings needed every bit of offense in the bank after coughing up a 3-0 lead. Despite Raymond providing five goals and 11 assists over the last month, the burgeoning winger suddenly has a slippery grip on the top-line role since future Hall of Famer Patrick Kane (hip) put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

Christian Fischer - Finds twine shorthandedFischer surfaced with a shorthanded goal in Saturay's 5-4 overtime win over the Canadiens.
ImpactFischer poked the puck into the cage after goalie Jake Allen lost track of it on the heels of a Michael Rasmussen breakaway attempt. The Chicago native is up to two goals and four assists through 22 games. However, the Wings aren't asking much of Fischer in his debut season with the Original Six club; he's averaging 11 minutes of ice time, including 0:32 on the penalty kill, as a fourth-line forward.

Cole Caufield - Back on top lineCaufield had four shots on net over 20:24 of ice time in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Red Wings.
ImpactCaufield was reunited with Nick Suzuki on the top line, as head coach Martin St. Louis adjusted in the wake of Alex Newhook's ankle injury, which is expected to sideline him for 10-to-12 weeks. The first line opened with Caufield, Suzuki and Sean Monahan, but finished the game with Joel Armia in Monahan's spot.

Jake Evans - Logs assist in OT lossEvans had an assist, a blocked shot and a hit over 16:31 of ice time in Saturday's 5-4 overtime loss to Detroit.
ImpactEvans picked up the secondary helper on Gustav Lindstrom's game-tying goal that set up overtime. The center moved up a notch -- from the fourth to third line -- as Alex Newhook (ankle) was added to injured reserve Saturday. Newhook will miss 10-to-12 weeks, so Evans could get opportunities with better offensive players than he usually gets on the fourth line. He has assists in two straight games and four over the past six. Evans has one goal, six assists, 19 shots, 22 hits, 21 blocks and six PIM while sporting a plus-6 through 24 games.
