Jiri Smejkal - Heads to minorsSmejkal was reassigned to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.
ImpactSmejkal had a goal and an assist in 20 NHL games with the Senators in 2023-24. He's also contributed nine goals and 22 points in 45 outings with Belleville. Ottawa's campaign is over, so that's why the 27-year-old is returning to the minors.

Zack Ostapchuk - Headed back to minorsOstapchuk was returned to AHL Belleville on Wednesday.
ImpactOstapchuk will bolster the forward depth for Belleville as the minor-league club tries to hold on to a playoff spot with three games remaining. On the year, the 20-year-old Alberta native has generated 17 goals and 11 helpers in 66 minor-league contests but failed to record a point in his seven appearances with Ottawa. Still, Ostapchuk should be in the mix for a spot on the Opening Night roster for the 2024-25 campaign.

Linus Ullmark - Downed by SensUllmark stopped 17 of 19 shots in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Senators, with Ottawa's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
ImpactThe veteran netminder didn't look particularly sharp on the two pucks that beat him in the second period, both of which came as he was moving to his right and got handcuffed by a quick shot. Ullmark finished the regular season having allowed three goals or less in eight of his last nine starts, going 6-3-0 with a 1.90 GAA and .935 save percentage, and he seems likely to be between the pipes when Boston begins a first-round playoff series against Toronto this weekend.

Jiri Smejkal - Pots first NHL goalSmejkal scored his first career goal in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Bruins.
ImpactThe 27-year-old rookie opened the scoring midway through the second period, as his quick shot handcuffed Linus Ullmark and trickled past the Boston goalie. Smejkal has played 20 games for Ottawa during his first season in North America and managed only two points, and his nine goals and 22 points in 45 AHL contests doesn't suggest he'll be anything more than organizational depth next season.
